The Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF) has welcomed the government’s introduction of the Electronic Visa (e-Visa) system, describing it as a major step forward in modernising Ghana’s travel and tourism infrastructure. GHATOF, the umbrella body for over 30 trade associations in the tourism and hospitality private sector, believes the move will streamline the visa application process, reduce human interface, and enhance the overall visitor experience.
Speaking on behalf of the Federation, the President, Seth Yeboah Ocran, stated that the digital transformation aligns with GHATOF’s advocacy for a more accessible and investor-friendly tourism environment. He highlighted that a simplified entry process is essential for attracting high-value tourists and investors who prioritize ease of travel.
While applauding the e-Visa rollout, GHATOF is also urging the government to consider a downward review of visa fees. The Federation argues that lower visa costs, combined with the efficiency of the e-Visa system, would significantly boost tourist arrivals, making Ghana a more competitive destination in the sub-region compared to other African nations with more aggressive entry policies.
GHATOF remains committed to working with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority to ensure that these digital and policy interventions translate into tangible growth for the industry, ultimately contributing to job creation and national economic development.
