Uplifting Women in Tourism
A National Initiative for Inclusive, Digital, and Sustainable Tourism Development in Ghana
Uplifting Women In Tourism (UWIT)
The Uplifting Women in Tourism (UWIT) Programme is a flagship initiative by the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), designed to empower and transform women’s participation in Ghana’s informal tourism economy into digitally enabled, environmentally sustainable, and financially secure entrepreneurship.
Women constitute over 70% of the workforce in Ghana's hospitality and tourism industry, yet they are often underrepresented in leadership roles. UWIT was established to bridge this gap, providing women with the tools, networks, and confidence to transition from service roles to ownership and executive management.
Our mission is to create an inclusive tourism ecosystem where every woman has the opportunity to thrive, innovate, and contribute to the economic prosperity of our nation.
